Grown by very knowledgeable plant people, this garden is beautifully balanced, creating an illusion of space by combining voids with layered, thickly-planted soft, edges.
Sandy soil has created the perfect environment for many West Australian species, including rare banksias and unusual grevilleas.
Many plants – from eucalypts to orchids – are in beautiful pots, adding a very different dimension, especially to the intimate front garden. The rear garden, overlooked by decks, is a true ‘carpet-of-colour-under-canopy’.
The garden extends beyond the fences and boundary: outside the front brush fence thrive many native grasses, and behind the rear fence, planting has extended into the neighbour’s domain, where a granitic sand path divides wide beds filled with yet more native shrubs and many local and introduced eucalypts. This is a garden full of richness and interest.
Illyarrie was featured on the ABC's Gardening Australia in November 2013.

The garden has since been expanded.
