Yamba is a passionate plant collector’s garden and the owner is a keen collector of bulbs, perennials and grasses.
Visitors will witness an essential yet creative use of hedges that are used as windbreakers, but also add a stylish framework to the garden. These frame large perennial borders of which there’s a great variety, including a short magnolia hedge (for easy picking), medlar, pomegranate, olive, ligustrum vulguare and escallonia ivyii.
Helen, a dedicated OGV volunteer on both the Committee and events subcommittee, loves winter gardens particularly the barks, berries and seed heads that can be discovered in the colder weather. She is a floral artist and needs something to pick all year round, which has also been a consideration when choosing the plantings in the garden.
There is also an avenues of trees and a large productive vegetable garden.
Antique Perennials will be selling plants at this opening and some of the proceeds from this opening will be donated to the Hamilton Aged Care Trust.
Yamba is located on the lands of the Eastern Maar people. Open Gardens Victoria wish to acknowledge the Traditional custodians and we pay respect to their Elders, past, present and emerging.
