Ray and Rhonda Stamp have created a beautiful garden on a permanent waterway linked by massive river gums.

Located on river flats on the outskirts of Wangaratta, this garden has excellent soil and good drainage with plenty of water. The house was built in 2009 with the 0.8 hectare garden evolving since then. Silver poplars, oaks and Chinese elms are some of the trees featured in the garden. However, a massive red gum, approximately 300 years old, provides a focal point at the bottom of the garden which ends on the banks of the billabong. Rhonda estimates spending two to three full days a week in the garden - maintaining, striking and adding new plants and tweaking according to whim.

Ray is a willing ally bringing in the farm bobcat to cart stone for the rock wall and fishpond, both created during Covid lockdowns. An amazing oasis has been created on the periphery of a busy service town of 20,000 residents.

Some of the proceeds from this opening will be donated to Zonta. This organisation will be providing light refreshments at this opening (scones and sandwiches).

The Stamp Garden is located on the lands of the Yorta Yorta people. Open Gardens Victoria wish to acknowledge the Traditional custodians of this land and we pay respect to their Elders, past, present and emerging.

Extra Activities in the Area:

  • Close to wineries, restaurants, bike trails, walking tracks and historic towns.
