The home garden of Landscape designer Sam Cox who practices in the Australian natural style of landscape design.

With a remnant bushland backdrop, this extensive garden in Wattle Glen exemplifies how traditional natives, Indigenous plants and considered design create a unified sense of place.

Balance and contrast are achieved in the ‘mass’ of themed plantings, mounds and basalt boulder outcrops that open up to ‘voids’ of pathways, ponds and low planted areas. Throughout the garden tree trunks of Eucalyptus sideroxylon (Ironbark) and Corymbia citriodora (Lemon-scented Gum) planted in close proximity provide striking visual contrast. Detailed understory planting softens the edges of paths, and heavy boundary planting of local species evokes a strong connection with remnant bushland beyond the garden.

The three distinct areas are:

  • Extensive native garden incorporating waterfall and pond systems
  • Large enclosed productive garden
  • Design of the garden influenced by Gordon Ford, a wonderful example of sense of place

There will be a Q&A sessions at 11am and 2.30 pm on both days.

Some of the proceeds for this opening will be donated to the Wattle Glen CFA.

Please note: There are deep ponds and uneven surfaces in the garden. Please keep children supervised. Snakes are active this time of year so please keep to the paths.

Public toilets are at the Research shops or at Peppers Paddock in Wattle Glen. There is an outdoor toilet on the property that can be used if required.
