Orvieto is on an extremely steep and rocky aspect with magnificent views overlooking the town of Lilydale and the Yarra Valley.

Paths traverse the garden, making the most of the aspect, where garden beds are filled with a diverse range of plants.

John has a particular passion for conifers, and has grown a wide range from the smallest displayed artfully in pots to mature pencil pines and cedars.

This has lead to a textured garden with various leaf forms, including maples, magnolias, viburnums, black bamboo, shrubs and perennials.

Given the slope and shallow soil profile, huge quantities of mulch, straw and stable manure have been added to help the garden thrive.  Recycled water from the two houses on the property is used.

Note: This is an extremely steep garden so please wear good walking shoes.

Scones, jam and cream will be served on the balcony at this opening.

Orvieto is located on the lands of the Wurundjeri people. Open Gardens Victoria wish to acknowledge the Traditional custodians of this land and we pay respect to their Elders, past, present and emerging.
