This Apartment House designed by Kerstin Thompson Architects was built in 2012, and the landscape was developed by Fiona Brockhoff Design soon after, with the majority of the planting taking place in 2013.
The front 'street garden' has no fence and this creates a strong interface with the street and any passers-by. Height and shade in the front are provided by ornamental trees and a hedge, behind which plantings are designed to create year-round interest.
Visitors are drawn into the entrance via a slate patio to a gate of almost transparent mesh which forms a lovely ‘veil’ between the street and the entry area and provides security without disruption of sight lines through the garden from front to rear. These stairs travel up through a courtyard of Himalayan Birches with their papery, peeling bark.
The very shady garden beneath is planted with lush green which were chosen throughout to give this part of the garden an Oriental feel.
Much of the rear garden is viewed from the terrace at the top of these stairs and the garden is designed with this in mind.
Other local activities and places of interest include:
- Prahran Market
- Cafes, restaurants and fashion outlets throughout Toorak Road and Chapel Street
- Yarra River walk and cycleway: MacRobertson Bridge to City
- Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria Melbourne
All proceeds will be donated to Burwood Heights Primary School and Kindergarten.
