This suburban block packs a punch with beautifully designed spaces for all the family.

The garden was designed to complement the modern look of the house but at the same time bring softness. This is achieved with curved garden seating and the use of timber decking as well as plantings that are not uniform.

Besides the wonderful choice of plants there is an interesting vegetable area using large concrete tubs as containers and the concrete seating that was poured on site.

There's a large variety of trees including magnolia grandiflora, golden pencil pine and gingko. Gingko trees and underplanting surround an undulating front lawn area.

Out the back there is a separate area for reflection or just a quiet sit. Underplanting's include foxtail ferns, euphorbias and nandines.

This garden shows what good design can achieve. It demonstrates the juxtaposition of hard surfaces with soft and varied plantings as well as shows how to use colour and texture to add places of interest.

Activities in the area:

  • Gardiners Creek walking trail
  • Cafes nearby in high street
  • Toilets nearby in Ashburton library

King Garden is located on the lands of the Wurundjeri people. Open Gardens Victoria wish to acknowledge the Traditional custodians and we pay respect to their Elders, past, present and emerging.
