Beautiful Bulbs
Things are stirring in the garden! One of our favourite harbingers of spring has to be the incredible life force of bulbs pushing their heads through the soil and erupting into cheerful swathes of blooming colour – from tiny crocus to sunny daffodils and exotic varieties of tulip. At OGV we want to celebrate the start of spring with the beautiful bulb displays in your home gardens, so in this month's competition we are looking for the loveliest use of flowering bulbs in Victoria.
How to enter
For the month of September, we’re asking you to send in pictures of 'Beautiful Bulbs’ displayed in your garden. Perhaps you have a carpet of bulbs growing in your lawn or under deciduous trees, or a startling combination of flower colours to share. Clusters of pots bursting with spring bulbs can bring such cheer to the early spring garden – we’d also love you to share those with us. And with such a treasure trove of unusual bulbs available, we’d love you to surprise and inspire us with rarer varieties too!
Send us a high resolution photo or photos (no more than 5, minimum image size 500KB) via email to operations@opengardensvictoria.org.au rather than via social media. Include a quick note describing what type of space it is, how you’ve used flowering bulbs in your garden, the names of the bulbs, and where in Victoria your garden is.
The competition is open to all home gardeners who live in Victoria. Images of gardens designed by professional gardeners or of commercial or public spaces may be sent in for us to share online for inspiration, but will not be included in the judging.
We’re delighted to announce that garden designer, communicator and plantsman, Simon Rickard, will be judging the competition. Follow Simon's inspiring garden on Instagram @simon_rickard. The competition winner will receive a $100 voucher generously donated by Tonkin's Bulbs who are located in the Dandenong Ranges and have an enviable selection of rare and unusual bulbs and perennials available via mail order.
Entries close at 5pm on Wednesday 30th September 2020…so don’t be shy, we can’t wait to see the beautiful bulbs in your garden!
