The mature trees are the standout feature of this garden including a magnificent Monterey Pine.

This is a garden of four seasons:

Spring sees the spectacular driveway bordered by towering elms and clipped hedges with underplantings of daffodils;

Summer: the deciduous trees are in full leaf and a variety of perennials begin to bloom;

Autumn: the deciduous trees take on magical colours – shades of yellow, orange and red – a feature of the cool climate in which they grow;

Winter: the bare branches give a surreal element to the garden and provide a complete counterpart to the poplars, pines, cedars, cypresses, eucalypts and other evergreens which punctuate the garden.

The general area is of historical interest, including what is now Cadella Park. It was identified in pastoral lease maps of the area around 1839 and was noted in Robert Hoddle’s feature plan of 1844 as having ‘good pasture’. As well as the site of an original bluestone homestead, Cadella Park is dotted with rusty relics and reminders of the uses made of it by previous owners.

The garden includes the homestead, cottage, lake and vegetable garden and covers eight acres. It is a working farm, with mainly cattle and spans 120 acres.

Simon Rickard will give a led garden tour and talk at 11am on both days of the opening.

There'll be a champagne bar at this opening serving a selection of drinks and savoury snacks as well as a pop-up café in ‘The Barn’ providing coffee and a selection of sweet favourites. Both will be catered for by ‘Prunella’. There'll also be Heskett Wine sales. Also enjoy a large range of plant stalls, local produce, art and craft and live music. There'll be a pop up store by The Woolshed Clothing Kyneton. Lee Adams, Wired for Living, garden sculptures will also be on display and FD Ryan's beautiful gardening tools will be for sale.

Cadella Park is located on the lands of the Taungurung People. Open Gardens Victoria wish to acknowledge the Traditional custodians of this land and we pay respect to their Elders, past, present and emerging.
