A Walk in the Garden at Avoca Street

Watch the interview from our Instagram Live series ‘A Walk in the Garden’, hosted by landscape designer and OGV Committee member Stephen Read on Saturday 18 July. Stephen interviews garden owner Sally-Anne Hains as she takes us on a guided tour through her incredible garden in inner city Melbourne.

Stephen and Sally-Anne chat about how the dramatic and lush foliage of the planting provide a more 'chaotic' contrast to the formality of the 1934 Georgian-revival style house. Sally-Anne guides us through some of her fascinating plant collection including a towering cactus-like Euphorbia and the wonderful story of her rescued ancient Dragon Tree.

For those interested in the names of some of the plants featured in this interview see the list below:

Cycas revoluta (Sago Palm)
Furcraea bedinghausii (Century Furcraea)
Cotyledon orbiculata (Round-leafed Navel-wort)
