The garden owners moved here in September 2008, and in February 2009 they were evacuated due to bushfires.

The Stanley State Forest forms the background to the cool climate garden of European trees and shrubs which the owners found to be less flammable than native plants. The resulting garden has been planted with a view to fire protection.

A comprehensive watering system powered by a large diesel pump supports strong sprinklers throughout the garden. A large fire bunker is in place near the house.

The entrance to the garden is a winding track through tall trees, opening out to a European-style garden full of rhododendrons, azaleas, hellebores, maples and camellias. A small unfenced dam and two small fish ponds are delightful water features.

Beyond the house and garden is a large open area filled with trees including maples, liquidambars, Pin Oaks, tulip trees, chestnuts and aspens.

A display of classic cars will be a unique feature in this garden.

Proceeds from this garden opening will go to the Stanley Community Post Office - which is operated by volunteers

Garden notes are written by the garden owners to describe their garden.
