Within its distinctive setting, Stone Axe resides among rolling hills with the Campaspe River and Lake Eppaloch, providing a ‘surprise’ following a dry-and-dusty approach to the house down a long driveway.
The scope of the garden is something that captures visitors’ imagination – particularly the integration of the garden within the broader landscape. The garden is well structured with dry-stone walls and highlights delightful sculptures. The plantings are interesting – most of which comprise mass plantings with succulents, natives and perennials along with a substantial number of fruit trees and a vegetable garden.
Beyond the ‘house block’ there is a vineyard and olive grove. The house has been designed with reference to Glenn Murcutt’s style of architecture.
For the opening, estate produce will be available for tastings and sale: wine, olive oil, jams and chutneys.
Stone Axe is one of a trio of Open Gardens this weekend in Redesdale – please visit Coliban Springs and Rocklands too if you are able.
