'Nioka' is the garden of ceramic artist Jack Lätti. Set in the hills of Research, Jack’s garden is where he combines his two passions – quirky ceramic pots and bold and colourful cacti and succulents such as stapelias, echeverias, crassulas, and a vast collection of aloes.
There are hints of Jack’s South African heritage throughout the garden in the plants, boulders and structures – all nestling comfortably in the surrounding landscape of eucalypts.
Jack creates very original pottery, ranging from tableware to amazing ‘vessels’ for potted succulents, which are displayed on tree bollards within the garden. Some of the quirky pots appear to have sprouted legs and look like they could scuttle off with their plant inside!
Visitors are welcome to look at Jack’s working pottery studio and wander through the small nursery area where he propagates his plants. A selection of ceramic art and plants will be for sale at the garden opening.
This garden will make a fascinating visit and has beautiful views of distant mountains to enjoy as well.
Garden notes are written by the garden owners to describe their garden. Download and print to bring when you visit the garden.
