This garden is intrinsically sympathetic to the home’s Edwardian architecture, with a perennial border and recycled brick path bordered by lawn complementing the original house. The back garden is much more contemporary - in line with the recent renovation.
A ‘Buxus walk’ invites you round the side of the house past an old Magnolia tree to the garden and pool at the rear. The back garden ‘packs a lot in’ – a productive component with concrete planters for herbs and veggies and espaliered olives and lemons; a lawn for the children and dog; a blue mosaic tiled pool which reflects the sky; and a charcoal pergola near the pool draped in Virginia Creeper.
Lush underplanting around stepping stones includes Dichondra and native violet in shaded areas, and thyme in full sun. Seasonal interest is provided throughout the garden – from the summer flowering perennials and grasses to the deciduous trees both front and back. Virginia Creeper provides autumn colour, while Buxus balls give year-round structure. The scent from the gardenias and herbs is an added bonus. Pots for feature planting have been carefully chosen to marry with the architecture, with traditional urns at the front and contemporary charcoal pots at the back.
Proceeds from the gate will be donated to support the Parent Association at Canterbury Girls’ Secondary College.
Beverages and snacks will be provided by Pookie May Coffee.
Garden notes are written by the garden owners to describe their garden.
