Elaine

  • 37 Wentworth Ave, Canterbury Vic 3126 (map)

Elaine is a lovely country style garden with significant mature trees including Atlantic Cedar, Scarlet Oak and Elm. The Oak was gifted by Strathcona in 1961 surrounding the heritage listed 1890s house.

There is a huge variety of plants that have changed over the years to cope with the shifting changing weather conditions and accommodate the different areas of shade and sunlight throughout the garden.

The beautiful veranda, with elaborate timber fretwork, was added as a wedding present in 1891 and the Tuscanite stone fence was built by the Palaeontologist ED Gill in the 1960s when they also planted the Cedar. There is a 40,000 litre water tank under the driveway, a pond and a pool.

The owners have created a lush, peaceful garden full of interest and able to cope with all weather conditions.

Some of the proceeds will be donated to Cottage By The Sea in Queenscliff.

Elaine is located on the lands of the Wurundjeri People. Open Gardens Victoria wish to acknowledge the Traditional custodians of this land and we pay respect to their Elders, past, present and emerging.
