Bentwood is an interpretation of a modern country garden that doesn’t take itself too seriously, and has been created by its owners over the past 16 years.

Although the house is 100 years old, little remained of the original garden.  Plantings were chosen that are low maintenance and robust as the garden shares its space with two large bouncy dogs. With limited water available,  soil health and plant choice was important. The garden focuses on balancing privacy with outstanding views to Yarra Glen and the Kinglake Ranges and aims to provide interest all year round. Recycled structures and sculptures add to the atmosphere of the garden.  Tucked away in the paddock is a micro flower farm in its infancy.

You'll also find roses, perennial driveway borders, a cutting garden and use of interesting plants as hedges to give structure to the garden.

Old outbuildings and upcycled pieces are also used to add whimsy to the garden.

Extra Activities

  • Ben's Bees Talk 11.30 Sunday – Bentwood has Ben Moore's hives in the paddock. Ben is one of the leading Bee people in Melbourne and has a popular bee keeping podcast.
  • Artwork from @ka.mo.artist will be on display and for sale.

A donation will be made to the Gruyere CFA from this opening.
