The Bellfield Community Garden is possibly the best facilitated/infrastructure community garden in Victoria, if not Australia.
The garden is purpose built, and is now in its fourth and final location.
The brief for the garden was supplied by a group of community garden experienced members and given to a handpicked garden designer. It has all the usual suspects in a community garden layout – compost bays, individual and communal plots, tool storage, pizza oven, meeting room, greenhouse and more. However, it is the attention to detail that makes it what a community garden should be. This includes the recycled double brick English bond large communal beds, the curved meandering paths and the many murals and mosaics spread throughout the garden. There's also a children’s play area!
Witness the display of spring planting, a children’s interactive mural and there'll also be a composting workshop on both days of this opening. There will also be tea and coffee making facilities available.
Some of the proceeds will go back into this community garden.
Right next door is the Farm Raiser Urban Garden and the entry fee also includes this garden.
Bellfield Community Garden is located on the lands of the Wurundjeri People. Open Gardens Victoria wish to acknowledge the Traditional custodians of this land and we pay respect to their Elders, past, present and emerging.
