Open Gardens Victoria is thrilled to be launching its 2016-17 season at Attila's incredible succulent garden in Narre Warren North.

The garden features an extraordinary collection of architectural agaves, aloes and yuccas amid colourful ground-covering succulents and Australian bottle trees in a series of terraced garden rooms.

Established progressively over the past 14 years on a 0.4 hectare house block, the garden is enclosed by a boundary hedge of conifers and opens out to a view of a large ornamental lake.

Attila and Michele Kapitany have adapted their gardening and planting strategies over the years to deal with the difficult challenges of a sloping site and nutrient deficient soils. The result has been a garden entirely devoted towards a diverse range of water-wise plants such as succulents, native trees and shrubs, flaxes and grasses. Incredibly, most of the 10,000-odd plants in the garden have been grown from seeds or cuttings raised by Attila and Michele.

Guided tours of the garden will be offered every two hours. Plants, seeds and books for sale.

Note: Sloping site, narrow paths and steps make this garden unsuitable for wheelchairs, walkers, prams etc.

Garden notes are written by the garden owners to describe their garden. Download and print to bring when you visit the garden.
