This is a clever example of what can be achieved when a disused concrete tennis court is converted into a ‘folly’ garden.

The entrance is grand, with large black gates and an espaliered pear tree on the entry wall. Behind this entrance wall is a ‘secret style’ garden with productive raised garden beds, the old tennis umpire’s chair surrounded by pots of roses and seaside daisy, and a greenhouse that allows for pottering in year-round. The base of the tennis court was crafted to give the appearance of blocks and planted with dichondra – yielding an ‘upright garden’ to make access easier.

Quince trees give a structure to two of the main garden beds, around which are planted a range of vegetables which are rotated every summer. The idea has been to give sense of surprise and secrecy to the garden, as well as an air of openness. A love of roses and picked flowers for the house fill another garden bed.

A greenhouse allows for pottering in year-round, and there are ample areas for entertaining while maintaining screening for privacy.

Gorgeous cakes and jams will be for sale at this garden opening, with the proceeds to be donated to the Nepean Historical Society Museum https://nepeanhistoricalsociety.asn.au/

Other activities and places of interest in the local area include:
